West Nile virus has been detected in 51 / 58 California Counties in 2006.

Humans
  • There have been 16 new WNV reported Human Cases in California this week from the following counties: Butte (3), Glenn (1), Los Angeles (1), Placer (2), Riverside (2), Sacramento (2), Shasta (1), Stanislaus (3), and Yolo (1).
  • There have been two WNV-related fatalities reported in California from Contra Costa (1) and Butte (1) counties in 2006.
  • 175 humans from 30 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2006.
Horses *
  • There have been 7 new WNV reported Horses in California this week from the following counties: Fresno (2), Marin (1), Merced (1), San Luis Obispo (1), and Shasta (2).
  • This is the first WNV positive Horse from Marin County this year.
Dead Birds
  • There have been 81 new WNV reported Dead Birds in California this week from the following counties: Alameda (2), Amador (1), Contra Costa (4), El Dorado (2), Glenn (4), Inyo (1), Kern (1), Kings (1), Los Angeles (8), Madera (1), Mendocino (2), Merced (1), Placer (1), Sacramento (6), San Bernardino (2), San Diego (1), San Joaquin (2), Santa Clara (25), Shasta (5), Sonoma (2), Stanislaus (3), Tehama (3), and Ventura (3). This is the first WNV positive Dead Bird from Madera County this year. This is the first indication of WNV from Amador County this year.
  • 931 dead birds from 47 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2006.
Mosquito Samples and Sentinel Chickens

  • 683 mosquito samples** from 33 counties have tested positive for WNV in 2006.
  • 44 WNV positive mosquito samples** tested positive for WNV last week from Alameda (1), Contra Costa (1), Fresno (1), Kern (17), Lake (1), Los Angeles (10), Orange (2), Placer (2), Riverside (3), Sacramento (1), San Bernardino (1), Shasta (1), Stanislaus (2), and Yolo (1) counties.
  • This week 50 chickens developed antibodies to WNV from Butte (9), Contra Costa (1), Fresno (3), Glenn (1), Imperial (2), Kern (3), Lake (1), Los Angeles (3), Sacramento (2), San Bernardino (5), Stanislaus (12), Sutter (4), Tulare (1), and Yuba (3) counties.
  • In 2006, 393 WNV seroconversions have been confirmed in chickens from Butte (44), Colusa (1), Contra Costa (25), Fresno (19), Glenn (10), Imperial (32), Kern (80), Kings (22), Lake (1), Los Angeles (12), Madera (4), Placer (5), Riverside (4), Sacramento (7), San Bernardino (5), San Joaquin (12), Solano (16), Stanislaus (28), Sutter (34), Tulare (16), Yolo (9), and Yuba (7) counties.
  • These are the first WNV positive Sentinel Chickens from Lake and San Bernardino counties this year.
