Winter Rain Means Dump and Drain

Feb 27, 2009

Winter is a good time to dump and drain standing water around your home to help reduce the places where mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus breed. Places to check for standing water include planters, containers, children's toys, and debris filled rain gutters.

And don't forget about that swimming pool! Neglected pools are prime breeding places for mosquitoes. If you are unable to properly maintain your swimming pool or know of one that is not maintained, call your local mosquito and vector control agency for assistance. Remember dumping and draining standing water on a regular basis is an easy and effective way to help protect you and your family from West Nile virus. Fight the bite!
